Everybody’s talked about the Smith & Wesson 1854. Now there’s a scoped package, and it changes what the gun is for.
Guns & Gear’s Ryan Gresham met up with Smith & Wesson’s Corey Beaudreau at the Smith & Wesson Academy in Maryville, Tennessee, where the 1854 now ships with a Vortex 2-7 HD on top — take it home, confirm zero, go hunt. Corey runs his paired with Gemtech’s new Neutrino, a printed-titanium hunting can at 8.8 ounces, and says it’s his actual setup for this season. The scoped package comes in .30-30 and .45-70, wood or polymer, same glass across the board.
Then they walked out to the Academy’s 300-yard range to see what a .30-30 can really do with glass on it — off the back of a truck, over a pack, at a distance nobody is reaching with iron sights.
