Caldwell ClayCopter Targets: Stealth Drones, High Velocity and Glow-in-the-Dark UFOs

When people see the Caldwell ClayCopter throwers and targets, they are amazed. It really is something new, and a fun challenge for shooters. The throwers get most of the attention, but the targets are just as interesting. There are now black stealth drones, faster high-velocity discs and glow-in-the-dark UFOs that you can shoot at night.

Not Your Traditional Clay

The ClayCopter targets are obviously not traditional clays. They are discs that throw up to 100 yards, which makes for a real challenge, and they are about the same size as a standard clay. They are also biodegradable and plant-based. If you want more challenge, Caldwell makes a 90mm version alongside the 110mm. It is a little smaller, so you had better make sure you are aiming right.

All of them share a life-like flight. They fly a little erratically and the wind can take them, so it feels more like shooting birds. They also do not break like clays do. They break when you shoot them, not when you drop them, which makes them far more portable. The crew liked that.

Stealth Drone: The Black Ones

Then there are the black ones. The Stealth Drone target is designed to look like a spinning drone propeller, and against different backgrounds it can be a real challenge. Caldwell says it offers high contrast on bright days and is harder to pick up in overcast or shaded areas. The crew threw a couple just to get a look, and one comment sums it up: that is challenging to see. Shoot one at night and you are probably not going to hit any.

High Velocity

The high-velocity targets are the next step up. In Caldwell’s lineup, the lighter ClayCopter XV accelerates faster and moves more in the wind, which adds difficulty. Next to the standard 110 target, you can see something is different the moment one leaves the thrower. They are fun, and they are not easy.

On the Range

Outside, the crew threw the Stealth Drone and the high-velocity targets one at a time to get a good look at each. Because the Surface to Air can throw doubles, they threw doubles too. On the first double, the two discs hung together, which helped the shooter out. They finished with doubles of the high-velocity target.

UFO: Glow-in-the-Dark Targets

The UFO is the one that really gets attention. These are glow-in-the-dark targets you can shoot at night, and Caldwell says they burst like glowing fireworks when hit. They charge under UV light, either from the Surface to Air itself or from the UFO Charger dispenser, which holds a tube of targets, comes with a shoulder strap and has a built-in UV light that charges them in seconds.

You cannot shoot inside, so the crew went indoors only to show how the UFOs glow. They loaded a tube of targets in the holder, turned the lights off and threw a single, then a double. The targets lit up in the dark. With the lights back on, the verdict was clear: imagine shooting these at night on your own property. Super challenging, super fun.

Final Thoughts

The ClayCopter Surface to Air is already a different way to shoot clays. Add the 90mm targets, the Stealth Drone, the high-velocity discs and the glow-in-the-dark UFOs and you have a lot of variety. It makes shooting challenging, and a whole lot of fun. Find the full lineup at Caldwell.
